Shipwrecked on a Zombie Island
How to Survive drops you onto an isolated island after a shipwreck, placing you in a strange world filled with zombies and other monstrosities. The game blends action, adventure, and RPG elements, focusing on the daily grind of not dying. Your main goals are simple: find food, water, and shelter before your stats run out. The game also features a third-person perspective and an open world to explore across four distinct islands, each with its own flora, fauna, and threats.
Crafting and Combat
Survival depends on more than just swinging a weapon. You need to gather resources to craft over 100 handmade weapons and tools, ranging from shotguns to Molotov cocktails. The game includes a deep crafting system that lets you piece together gear to defend yourself. You can choose one of three playable characters, each possessing different characteristics and skill trees that shape how you handle the night and the creatures within it. As you explore, you collect pages of a Survival Guide and video chapters that offer tips to help you stay alive.
Playing Together
You do not have to survive alone. The game supports playing with a friend offline through the story mode or online through 8 demanding challenges. The Steam version includes the Remote Play Together feature, allowing you to play with others remotely. Whether you are smashing brains in the story or tackling specific challenges, having a partner helps you defend against the island's abhorrent monstrosities.
Before You Start
Be aware that the game includes a "Gore" tag and features plenty of red goo alongside the comedy elements. If you want a tougher experience, you can try the "Iron Man" difficulty for a demanding hardcore run. The game also offers a "Primal Fear" armor set for players who already own How to Survive or How to Survive: Third Person Standalone on Steam.
