Build, shoot, and topple forts

Forts is a physics-based real-time strategy game where you build a base out of wood, metal, and other materials, then load it with weapons and try to destroy the other side's structure. The building is not just decoration: beams and joints carry weight, so a badly placed support can bring your own fort down when it takes a hit. You gather resources in real time and spend them on a tech tree that unlocks better weapons and upgrades. The arsenal includes 16 weapons, ranging from machine guns and snipers to missiles and plasma guns. There are 12 commanders to pick from, each with a different style, such as the firepower-focused Warthog, the defensive Armourdillo, the tricky Shockenaugh, and the builder-oriented Architect.

Playing together

Forts supports online co-op and online PvP. In multiplayer matches you can join up to seven other players, for up to eight in total, and fight over who can level the other's fort first. The physics make every match different: a well-aimed shot at a weak support can collapse an entire tower, so teams that coordinate on where to aim and when to rebuild have an edge. There is also a 1v1 ranked mode with two-month seasons and a leaderboard, plus multiplayer training missions built to introduce new players to online play before they jump into real matches.

Before you start

There is a 28-mission single-player campaign where you fight the Black Penguin Oil Company, which is a good place to learn the building and resource systems without pressure. Two expansion packs add more: High Seas brings naval combat with water and buoyancy physics and ships like cruisers and aircraft carriers, while Moonshot adds a Pacific Rim campaign, four new arenas, a portal mechanic, and extra weapons. When someone hosts a multiplayer game, everyone in that lobby gets access to the host's DLC weapons and features, so you can try them even without owning the DLC yourself. The game has a built-in map editor and Steam Workshop support for player-made maps, weapons, tech, and campaigns, and it receives regular updates tied to the ranked seasons.
