What Dragons Legacy is
Dragons Legacy is an online creature survival game set in a large sandbox open world with day/night cycles. You hatch into the world as a baby dragon and have to eat, drink, and stay alive while you grow toward adulthood. The map is 16x16km and holds forests, grasslands, lakes, canyons, and swamps to move through. You pick a species such as the Flame Stalker, Shadow Scale, or Acid Spitter Drake, and each species has its own stats and abilities. Some dragons fly, breathe fire, spit acid, shoot plasma, or turn invisible. Movement covers flying, swimming, walking, running, trotting, and sleeping, and some species can even swim underwater. Flight is physics-based, so it reads as realistic and takes practice to handle well.
Playing with your group
Everything runs on a dedicated server that you or someone else hosts, and other creatures out there are a mix of players and AI. You can chat, form groups, and join a clan or start your own, with clan chat, clan leadership, and other clan features built in. The Steam features cover both online co-op and online PvP, so sessions can go from cooperating with friends to fighting other players. If you want to hatch eggs together, dragons can lay eggs that other players hatch, and each egg inherits stats from both parents. Otherwise you can spawn in with randomly assigned stats, which will land somewhere within the normal range for your species.
Before you start
Growth takes time and resources: you need to keep eating and drinking to reach the adult stage. Reaching adult is not the end of the run, since the game has an endgame where you unravel a mystery that lets your dragon grow stronger and larger into an Elder of its species. Stats vary slightly between individuals of the same species, so two dragons of one type will not be identical. The game runs on Windows and Linux, including laptops, the Steam Deck, and older-generation hardware.
