A comedy action RPG about finding The Artifact
DeathSpank has spent his life as a Dispenser of Justice, a Vanquisher of Evil, and a Hero to the Downtrodden, and now he is closing in on a powerful object known only as The Artifact. Nobody knows who made it, why, or when, and DeathSpank does not seem especially bothered by those gaps. The writing comes from Ron Gilbert, so expect witty dialogue, ridiculous situations, and a story that treats its own epic quest as material for jokes. The world you travel through is large and filled with odd characters, dangerous enemies, varied landscapes, and a great many chickens.
Playing with a friend
The game supports two-player local co-op. The second player joins as a heroic sidekick and fights alongside DeathSpank through dungeons and the wider world. Local co-op needs a controller for the second player. The Steam listing also includes Remote Play Together, which lets someone join over a connection rather than sitting at the same screen.
What to know before you start
Combat is hack-and-slash action with RPG systems underneath. You will pick up hundreds of weapons, armor pieces, and unique items, then use them to shape your character's abilities and inventory. Some of the loot is played for laughs, such as unicorn poop and a chicken launcher, so expect the gear list to be as silly as the story. The Steam tags list both Singleplayer and Local Co-Op, so you can play through the whole thing alone or bring a friend in for the sidekick role.
