What Dark Roll: Free Kick Challenge is

Dark Roll: Free Kick Challenge is a free kick simulator where you play as an orb instead of a footballer. You roll up to the ball, line things up and strike, trying to bend it into the net. It's a spin-off based on the original Dark Roll game, and it keeps the same simple-to-understand mechanics with a demanding level of difficulty. The whole thing runs on physics and precision, so a shot that looks fine can still clip the wall or drift wide. Expect to spend time reading the angle and power rather than mashing buttons.

Playing on your own

Single player challenges give you a set of tasks to work through, and there are single player modes where you compete against other people through Steam Leaderboards. Steam achievements are built in to extend the gameplay and give you extra challenges beyond the core goals. Completing tasks unlocks more orbs to play as — there are over 20 of them, and most have to be unlocked rather than handed to you. Each orb has its own parameters: size, speed, brake, power, swerve and jumping. That means switching orbs changes how a shot behaves, so a heavier or swervier orb can open up angles that another one can't reach. Character customization is part of the mix too.

Going into ranked multiplayer

When you feel confident in your skills, ranked multiplayer is where you test them. It's a free kick shootout against another player, and each player gets 5 chances to score a goal. Since the format is short and symmetric, one badly read shot costs a lot, and the difficulty tag on this game is there for a reason. It's family friendly and casual in presentation, but the competitive side is genuinely demanding. Worth knowing before you start: the game is singleplayer-friendly first, multiplayer is ranked, and the orb you pick matters as much as how you strike.
