A corgi with magic against the Bunny King
Corgi Warlock is a side-scrolling fantasy action game where Maia, a Corgi Warlock, sets out to defeat the Evil Bunny King and his army of undead minions. She fights with magic, and the enemies she runs into include Narwhals, Fencing Bears, and Crazed Unicorns. The tone is cartoonish and comedic rather than grim, with a story presented as the exploits of Maia on her quest. It plays like an arcade-style 2D platformer: you move through levels side by side, deal with what the game throws at you, and push forward toward the King.
Playing it together
The game supports 1 to 4 players in local co-op. If Maia needs help, she can team up with her pals: The Magic Pug, The Prophet Pig-J, and the Deadly Fish Mage. Each of these brings their own powers, so a full group has four different characters on screen at once. The game is built around local co-op and local versus multiplayer, so everyone plays on the same setup. Remote Play Together is listed as a Steam feature, which is worth knowing if your group is spread across different places.
Battle Mode for settling arguments
Alongside the quest, there is a 1-4 player vs. Battle Mode. It exists for the lighter side of things: deciding who does the dishes, or working out whether a Pug really is better than a Corgi. This is a separate mode from the campaign, so a group can switch between pushing through the story together and fighting each other for bragging rights.
Before you start
The game is local multiplayer first, so plan on being in the same room or using Remote Play Together. It is a 2D side-scrolling action platformer with a cartoon, cute, and funny presentation, aimed at a casual-friendly crowd rather than a punishing one. The project comes from Xander's Corgi Arcade, a one-man shop started by a former Pixar, Dreamworks, and Sony animator who took a break to make his own games, with his corgi Maia as the inspiration. The store text notes the story is "based on a true story*", which fits the playful tone of the whole thing.
