What Circle of Sumo: Online Rumble! is
You play as a Sumotori, a sumo wrestler, and get catapulted into a physics-based arena where the goal is simple: be the last one standing in the circle. The physics matter as much as raw power, so charging, hitting and dodging all feed into the same outcome. Arenas are full of hazards — magma, sand, hatches and other pitfalls — and they can eliminate players just as effectively as a shove. Sometimes the smartest play is to dodge at the last moment and let the other Sumotoris take each other out. There are twelve arenas, each with its own layout and hazards, and eight Sumotoris with different sprint, strength and acceleration ratings, so the matchup changes depending on who you pick and where you fight.
How a group plays it together
Online multiplayer runs with up to four players, so you can challenge up to three other Sumotoris in a single match. The last wrestler standing takes the round, and whoever wins five rounds becomes champion of the match. Ranked mode puts you against other players online and tracks your position in the world rankings, which is where the competitive side of the game sits. Since matches are short and rounds reset quickly, a group can pass the controller around the idea of the session by taking turns queueing up, or just watch and react between rounds.
Before you start
The arenas are built to trick you: they look harmless but hide more pitfalls than you'd expect, so learning each of the twelve layouts is part of the game rather than optional polish. Picking a Sumotori with the right ratings for your style matters too — the game puts it plainly that the arena chooses the Sumotori, not the other way round. Progression runs through MON, an in-game currency you gain just by playing, with more wins bringing more MON. Takarabako, meaning "Treasure Chest," holds champions, arenas and new emotes. The game is in Early Access, so expect things to still be in development.
