Chess, but every piece is a cat

Cat Chess takes the classic game of chess and gives each piece a cat breed with its own animations and personality. The rules stay familiar, so anyone who knows chess can sit down and play, while the presentation does the rest: stray cats come off fierce, witty and rebellious, house cats are elegant, calculated and smug, and every capture or interaction between pieces is played for humor. The board and pieces are drawn in a colorful, cartoony style, which makes it easy to read the position at a glance even with all the jokes going on. It works as a quick casual match or as a proper strategy session, depending on how seriously you take it.

Playing together

You can challenge friends in custom online matches, or sit on the same device for local offline play when you are all in one room. Between turns there is something to do: play with your own cats while waiting for the opponent to move, and use the quick emotes to react to what just happened on the board. If your group wants a specific setup rather than a standard starting position, FEN support lets you load custom positions directly, which is handy for recreating a famous game, setting up a puzzle, or starting from a handicap. You can also customize cat colors, skins and board elements, so each player can show up with their own look.

Playing on your own

When nobody is around, a bot opponent scales all the way up to 3000 ELO, so there is room to grow from a casual game to a genuinely demanding one. There is also a single player campaign built as a series of challenges, with goodies to unlock as you work through them. Between the campaign, the bot and custom FEN positions, there is plenty to do solo before you take your cats back online.

Before you start

The core is standard chess mechanics with a feline twist, so learning the game itself is not required if you already play chess, and the presentation keeps things light for people who do not. Expect short, turn-based matches with a lot of character in the animations rather than a simulation. Set up your cat and board customization early, since that is what you and your opponents will be looking at for the whole match.
