What Warframe is
Warframe is a third-person action game set across the Origin System, a network of worlds caught up in war between rival factions. You play as a Tenno who awakens inside a Warframe, a bio-metal suit with its own set of Abilities. From the start you pick one of three original Warframes, then work your way through Missions on the ground, using parkour movement to climb, slide and vault through levels while cutting down hordes of enemies. Over time you can earn or instantly unlock more than 60 Warframes, each with a different suite of powers, so the same Mission can play very differently depending on what you bring. Alongside your Warframe you build an Arsenal: hundreds of weapons to craft, level up and combine, plus vehicles and Companions. The story is delivered through 30+ Quests spread across 5 expansions, following the guidance of the mysterious Lotus as you uncover the truth behind your awakening.
Playing with friends
Warframe is built around Squads. Form one with your friends and run Missions together, earning bonus Rewards when you complete them as a team. The co-op is genuinely collaborative: one Warframe can heal allies, another can redirect enemy fire, and combining Abilities is how you get through the tougher objectives. If your group is short a player or someone is stuck on a particular challenge, in-game matchmaking connects you with other Tenno for an extra pair of hands. Cross-platform multiplayer means friends on different setups can still group up, and the game also supports Remote Play on phone, tablet and TV.
Before you start
Warframe is free to play and includes In-App Purchases, so expect a game that respects your time only if you set your own pace. There is a lot to take in at the beginning: Missions, crafting, Modding and loadout customization all open up gradually, and the starter Weapons are meant to be replaced as you level. Customization runs deep, both in terms of gear and in how your Warframe looks, which is a big part of the endgame for a lot of Squads. It supports full controller play, including DualShock and DualSense, with camera comfort options, color alternatives, custom volume controls and a playable-without-timed-input option if you need them. Single-player is fully supported if you would rather learn the systems alone before joining a Squad.
