What The Ouroboros King is

The Ouroboros King is a turn-based tactics game that plays like chess, but with pieces you assemble yourself. You combine classic chess pieces with new fairy chess pieces, then layer on relics that give them bonuses and consumable items that grant temporary advantages during a fight. The goal of a run is to build an army strong enough to defeat the Coven. Everything is unlocked from the start, so you pick your tools immediately rather than waiting to earn them. You do not need to know chess openings or study anything beforehand — the tactics are easy to learn and hard to master. Runs last roughly 15 to 45 minutes, which fits a short break or a longer sitting.

How a group plays it together

The main mode is singleplayer, but the game supports same-device multiplayer: you can challenge your friends to chess games using the many unique pieces. Everyone takes turns on the same machine, so it works well as a pass-the-controller match. Remote Play Together is also listed as a Steam feature, letting others join in over a connection. Since only one piece moves per turn, matches stay readable for a group watching along — each decision is a single move, and the whole table can argue over which piece should go where.

What to know before starting

Expect a steep challenge. The game is tagged as difficult, and victory or defeat comes down to your own decisions rather than to unlocks or grinding. Losing is part of the loop: when you are defeated, you continue on another timeline where the map, enemies, and rewards all change, so the path to victory is different each time. Between fights you assemble your army, pick up relics, and buy gadgets, so no two runs hand you the same set of options. When you want it harder, end-game options let you push the difficulty up to extreme levels. The game is 2D, set in a fantasy medieval world, and all in-game text is available in English.
