A Farm, an Island, and a Caravan
You've bought Old Man Jeffrey's farm and his rustic caravan on Luma Island, and it's yours to fix up. From that starting point you explore the island: lush forests, mountains, jungles, and a pirate cove that has recently been uncovered. Farming, fishing, mining, cooking, and crafting all sit alongside each other, so you can spend a session growing crops and raising animals, then head into the temples to dig up secrets. There are no stamina bars and no inventory limits, so you can keep working without being pushed back to camp. The island also has a full-screen map to keep you oriented while you roam.
Raising Lumas
Scattered around the island are magical creatures called Lumas. You track down their eggs, hatch them, and end up with companions that have their own abilities, useful for exploring and finding treasure. Alongside them you build up the farm itself, from small cottages to larger estates, and decorate as you see fit. You also pick a profession, which shapes what you spend your time on, whether that's fishing, mining for rare materials, cooking, or crafting gear to sell in town. The island's locals have quests and stories attached to them, so talking to them is worth doing as you go.
Playing With Friends
Luma Island runs as a 1-4 player online co-op with drop-in/drop-out multiplayer, so friends can join and leave without derailing the session. Everyone shares resources, works on challenges together, and builds side by side on the same farm. It also works as a singleplayer game if you'd rather go at your own pace.
Picking a Mode
Three modes set the tone before you start. Cozy Mode has no combat unless you choose to seek it out, Adventure Mode balances challenge with downtime, and Hero Mode raises the difficulty with stronger enemies. The mode you pick applies to how the whole group experiences the island, so it's worth agreeing on one before you begin. This version of the game includes both the original Luma Island and the Pirates edition, which adds new adventures, more Lumas, and quality-of-life improvements, with the Pirates content available from the start.
