A Ronin fighting through the Outer Realm
Born Again is a 2D pixel-art hack-and-slash RPG where you play as a Ronin of the Spirit Realm on a path of redemption. You cut through the evil brewing in the Outer Realm, facing clever tricksters, colossal beasts and tyrannical kings on the way to the ominous Overlords. Combat leans on the action roguelike side: enemies fill the screen with bullets and attacks, so positioning and timing matter as much as raw damage. Every foe you cut down can drop equipment, and that loot changes the pace of your next duel, so a run that starts rough can turn once a better weapon or piece of armor lands in your hands.
Playing together with friends
The game supports online co-op, and the open realms are built for it. You can team up with new or existing friends and work in tandem to slay the mightiest of foes, the ones that would be hard to handle alone. Since the whole thing is PvE, your group is always fighting the realm together rather than each other. Loot and character building stay personal, so each Ronin in the party ends up with their own look and their own combination of gear.
Permanent death and what carries over
Permanent death is a core rule: each step forward is earned, and a fallen Ronin does not simply get back up. What softens that is the Honor of your past lives, which builds your next journey and creates a dynasty of Ronin. In practice, that means a failed run still feeds into the next one rather than wiping your progress entirely. Expect to lose characters and expect those losses to matter.
Building your own Ronin
Character customization runs deep. Each weapon and piece of armor changes how your Ronin looks, and there are collectible hats and pet companions on top of that, so your gear doubles as a display of what you have achieved. Class, equipment and blessings can be mixed freely: a stealthy assassin striking from the dark, a barbaric warrior hacking through the horde, or a precise archer supporting from afar. Before starting, it is worth knowing that the game is free to play, that it is a Massively Multiplayer title where you share the realm with other players, and that the combination of bullet-hell combat and permanent death rewards a cautious first few runs before you commit to an aggressive build.
