What A House of Thieves is

A House of Thieves is a level-based stealth game with a comedy-horror twist. You play a Thief who refuses to go shopping, so instead of paying for groceries he takes his shopping list and breaks into random houses to collect the items on it. The setup is simple: you want to cook pasta, the tomato sauce is gone, so you work through a neighbor's house and take what you need. Each item on your list is picked at random, and items change location every time you repeat a level, so runs rarely play out the same way twice. This is the PC version, played with mouse and keyboard, of the indie VR game There is a Thief in my House.

Playing together with friends

The game supports online co-op and online PvP. In co-op, up to 4 players take on the AI together, sneaking through the house and working through the list as a group. In PvP, 3 players go against another player who takes the role of the homeowner and places traps to stop the opponents. The AI that patrols the house moves randomly, with no system behind its patrol patterns, so you read its movement on sight rather than memorizing a route.

Before you start

Finishing a level faster earns more stars, and reaching certain star totals unlocks gadgets you can use on later runs. The item positions and the AI's wandering both reshuffle, so repeat playthroughs stay different. The tone mixes cartoonish, stylized visuals with psychological horror, which is worth knowing if anyone in your group dislikes that mix. Subtitles can be turned on for players who are deaf or hard of hearing. The full game is available in English, German, French, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Turkish, and Portuguese from Brazil, with Russian and Korean covering part of the game only.
